Hotel Mea Lipari

Enjoy a new perspective

A boutique hotel in the hills above Lipari town and the island’s bustling port.

Overlooking the busy bay of Marina Lunga and the 15th-century Castle Lipari, this pretty hotel is an intimate retreat on the largest of the Aeolian Islands, Lipari. The Mea has a typical Mediterranean style with Moorish architecture and design, fresh white exterior walls and cream décor in the interior spaces. The real highlights of the hotel are the hillside setting and the resulting views of the coast and harbour and the Tyrrhenian Sea. Your days could easily be spent in or around the pools – one of which is a hydro-massage pool – however it’s well worth heading out to explore the island or at least the pretty nearby town where you can visit the Aeolian Archaeological Museum, the Lipari Cathedral and the 16th-century fortifications.

Why we love Hotel Mea Lipari

  • There are just 37 rooms, all individually decorated – and some with four-poster beds – so it never feels busy or impersonal

  • It’s close enough to Lipari for you to walk there in 15 minutes, but in a peaceful setting on a leafy hillside away from the bustle

  • The restaurant has bags of charm, beautiful views of the bay and a refreshingly modern take on traditional Sicilian dishes

  • You might find it hard to tear yourself away from the tree-fringed main swimming pool and its hydro-massage neighbour
